My name is Janelle Applequist (B.A., M.A.,Ph.D.) and I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida in the Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications. I am a proud graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where I received my Ph.D. To learn about my approach to research and education, please see my TED Talk at TEDxPSU on using personal experience to inform research and educational instruction. As a researcher focused on health communication and advertising, I am interested in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in regards to developing more normative frameworks to encourage proper patient education. I have presented my research at a number of conferences, including forums abroad in Australia and Italy. I am especially passionate about my teaching and am currently a graduate faculty member, teaching Qualitative Research Methods in Mass Communications at the graduate level. I was recently named a recipient of the University-wide Harold F. Martin Graduate Assistant Outstanding Teaching Award at Penn State, and have also received two full grants while teaching to complete my research. My work has been provided for training at medical conferences for the state of Pennsylvania, and I have also been published in academic journals and five different encyclopedias. Please have a look at my website to learn more about my scholarship, passion for teaching, and future goals!
